THIRD COUNTRY NATIONALS – OTHER VISAS AND PERMITS
Cyprus offers a range of visas and residence permits for third-country nationals wishing to visit, study, work, invest or reside in the Republic. Our experienced team of immigration lawyers and consultants provides comprehensive advice and assistance throughout the application process, ensuring that each application is prepared efficiently and in full compliance with the applicable Cyprus immigration legislation.
TEMPORARY RESIDENCE PERMIT (“PINK SLIP”)
The Temporary Residence Permit (“Pink Slip”) allows non-EU nationals to reside lawfully in Cyprus for a specified period, provided they satisfy the applicable immigration requirements. The permit is renewable and is commonly issued to visitors, retirees, financially independent individuals and accompanying family members.
Applicants must demonstrate sufficient financial resources to support themselves without engaging in unauthorised employment in Cyprus and maintain valid medical insurance where required.
(A) VISITOR VISA
Visitor residence permits are available to third-country nationals who wish to reside in Cyprus without undertaking employment. Typical applicants include:
- Property owners in Cyprus;
- Retirees and financially independent individuals;
- Family members of Cyprus residents or citizens;
- Visitors wishing to extend their lawful stay, subject to the applicable immigration requirements.
Ownership of residential property in Cyprus may support an application for visitor residence but does not, by itself, confer the right to work.
(B) STUDENT VISA
Third-country nationals enrolled in recognised educational institutions in Cyprus must obtain a Student Residence Permit.
Applications are generally submitted through the educational institution, and students are required to complete the necessary immigration formalities upon arrival in Cyprus.
(C) EMPLOYMENT VISA
Third-country nationals wishing to work in Cyprus must obtain the appropriate employment authorisation and residence permit before commencing employment.
Applications are normally submitted by the Cyprus employer and are subject to the applicable immigration and labour legislation. Depending on the category of employment, approval may require confirmation that all statutory conditions have been satisfied.
CYPRUS VISA – IMMIGRATION PERMITS
Cyprus offers a range of immigration permits for third-country nationals wishing to reside, work, study, invest or establish a business in the Republic. The appropriate permit depends on the applicant’s personal circumstances, the purpose of residence and compliance with the applicable immigration legislation.
The principal categories include:
- Temporary Residence Permits (Visitor Permits or “Pink Slips”);
- Employment and Work Permits;
- Student Residence Permits;
- Permanent Residence Permits, including the Permanent Residence by Investment Programme;
- Residence Cards for Non-EU Family Members of EU Citizens; and
- Other residence permits available under the Aliens and Immigration Law and the relevant Regulations.
Applications are examined by the competent Cyprus authorities on the basis of the applicable legislation and the supporting documentation submitted by the applicant.
Eligibility requirements vary depending on the type of permit and may include evidence of financial means, accommodation in Cyprus, employment or business activity, investment, medical insurance, a clean criminal record and compliance with Cyprus immigration and anti-money laundering legislation.
Our experienced immigration specialists provide comprehensive assistance with:
- Assessing eligibility for the appropriate immigration route;

- Providing ongoing immigration, legal and tax support.
Each application is assessed individually, and our team works closely with every client to ensure that the process is handled efficiently, professionally and in full compliance with the applicable Cyprus legislation.
RESIDENT PERMIT FOR NON-EU FAMILY MEMBERS OF EU CITIZENS
Non-EU family members of EU citizens who reside in Cyprus can obtain a Resident Permit. Non-EU family members such as a spouse and unmarried children under 18 years old can also obtain a Resident Permit upon providing documentary evidence of the family relationship (e.g. birth certificates) with the EU citizen.
The Residence Permit issued to a non-EU family member is valid for five years from the date of the issue or for the envisaged period of residence of the EU citizen.
